Akufo-Addo sympathises with victims of collapsed church building

President Akufo-Addo has commiserated with the family of victims who perished in the collapsed church building at Akim Batabi in the Eastern Region.

The President in a tweet on Thursday also wished the survivors, some of whom sustained various degrees of injuries, a speedy recovery.

“On behalf of Government and the people of Ghana, I send my deepest condolences to the families of the 15 persons who lost their lives tragically in the church building that collapsed at Akim Batabi near Oda. I wish the 8 injured persons a speedy recovery,” his tweet read.

It was around 4:00 pm when the Church of Prosperity owned by Prophet Akuwa Isaac collapsed on about 60 congregants who had assembled for a church programme on Tuesday.

So far, 20 bodies have been exhumed from the debris of the collapsed three-storey building, which includes 10 females and 10 males and eight others have sustained various degrees of injures.

The National Disaster Management Organisation for the area says it will work overnight until it retrieves the last person trapped.
